In Hamilton today, being a guest at my honorary daughter's house. Native clematis is blooming in every bush patch here.
A courier was coming with my new tent, 1kg lighter than the bivvy bag. Not as warm, not as inconspicuous, but a whole kilogram lighter.
Intents Outdoors is an Auckland company and the service and pricing were excellent.
The tent feels flimsy to someone used to a goretex shroud but all the way from Rangiriri to Huntly I analysed how my load could be reduced and zeroed in on the bivvy bag.
Now that I've swapped out the cotton shirt for the lighter UV resistant one, sent home the binos and warm pants, discarded half the duct tape roll in the repair kit, bought the air mat and left the bivvy bag here for NOH to collect on his next visit, what does the pack weigh?
Fully loaded for the next five days to Waitomo across Pirongia, the answer is, 12.3kg.
We celebrated by taking Milo and Blue for a long walk to Hamilton Gardens and along the river. Not a completely zero day!
The walk to Waitomo will take five days, all going well. I will post again around 23 October.
